TIP ONE
Your mom told you, but it's worth repeating: Separate the lights and darks! One wayward red sock in a load of pearly whites, and you'll end up with sheets suitable for Barbie.

Stubborn makeup stains are hard to remove. Wash off all powder cosmetics before you hit the hay. Your (white) sheets will thank you!

TIP THREE
Stay away from the bleach. Believe it or not, bleach can actually cause fabrics to yellow over time. Reach for these items instead: Lemon juice, baking soda, and tried-and-true, good ol' white vinegar.

Make it a no-pet zone. We love our pets, too, but light-colored linens and muddy paws simply don't mix. Sorry, Fido!
